Alcohol sales inside stadiums are prohibited for the Paris 2024 Olympics

A different approach will be taken at the Paris Olympics next summer, where the sale of alcohol inside stadiums will not be allowed for general spectators. Only VIP guests in hospitality areas will have access to alcoholic beverages.
The decision regarding alcohol sales at the Paris Olympics is based on the "Evin's Law," a French legislation that prohibits the sale of alcohol in stadiums to the public.
Although exemptions can be granted for a limited number of events each year, organizers of the 2024 Olympics did not pursue an exemption.
They explained that accommodating the size and scale of the event would have required a change in the law, which was not pursued.
In contrast, an exemption was negotiated for the Rugby World Cup taking place in France this year, allowing fans to enjoy alcoholic drinks inside the venues.
Similarly, during the 2022 Champions League final held at the Stade de France in Paris, supporters were permitted to consume alcohol throughout the match.
However, restrictions were in place regarding the consumption and sale of alcohol in public spaces surrounding the stadium.
Alcohol sales have varied across different Olympic Games. At the London 2012 Olympics and Rio 2016 Games, beer and wine were available for spectators. However, the Tokyo 2020 Games, held in 2021 without spectators due to the pandemic, did not permit alcohol sales.
