The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) scheduled a hearing on January 19, 2024, for the appeal filed by World Athletics, through the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), challenging the initial decision of the disciplinary tribunal in the case involving World Athletics Vs Nigeria and 100m hurdles World Record holder Tobi Amusan.
AIU and WADA submitted their appeals on September 15 and 17, 2023, respectively, aiming to impose a ban on Amusan for whereabouts failures in 2023.
In July 2023, AIU provisionally suspended Amusan and issued a notice of charge for an anti-doping rule violation. The Disciplinary Tribunal, consisting of three members, cleared her of two out of the three whereabouts failures, leading to the lifting of the provisional suspension just before the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, last August.
Despite the clearance, Amusan faced emotional distress and couldn't defend her 100m hurdles world title. She later triumphed at the Diamond League final, defending her title against Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and world champion Danielle Williams in Oregon, USA.
Maintaining her stance as a clean athlete, Amusan faces another challenge at CAS to prove her innocence. CAS hearings, not open to the public, can occur in-person, by videoconference, or in a mixed format.
