Team Nigeria's initial contingent of athletes for the World Athletics Championships arrived in Budapest, Hungary, as officials eagerly await the clearance of Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100m hurdles, by the Athletes Integrity Unit (AIU).
The championship is scheduled from August 19 to 27.
Departing from Lagos' Murtala Muhammed International Airport through Turkish Airlines, the athletes are preparing to acclimatize and finalize their preparations, with about 80% of the contingent already en route to Budapest.
Samuel Onikeku, AFN's Technical Director, expressed optimism for a strong performance and potential surprises akin to previous championships, while 400m runner Opeyemi Deborah Oke, participating in her first World Championships, also shared her hopes for a successful outing.
AFN President Tonobok Okowa anticipates positive news from the AIU regarding Amusan's clearance.
