The Nigeria Athletics Federation (AFN) has selected 40 athletes to fly Nigeria's flag at the forthcoming African Under 18/20 Junior Championship in Ndola, Zambia later this month.
The Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Samuel Onikeku made this known after the one-day national trials which held at the Steven Keshi International Stadium, Asaba.
Onikeku said that the athletes selected for both the U-18 and 20 were the best in their categories.
"Those selected will go into closed camping to fine tune them in preparations for the African Junior Championship.
"The athletes will go through different programmes especially baton exchange and conditioning to put them in top shape for the continental Fiesta.
"The decision to bring Team Nigeria training Camp to Asaba is to enable them get used to the modern facilities at the Steven Keshi Stadium.
"This is in a bid to enhance their performance, as well as get them used to the type of facilities that they might meet in Ndola,'' he said.
Onikeku noted that the tracks at the Steven Keshi International Stadium were the same with the ones used at the Commonwealth Games.
He then asserted that the athletes would not give excuses as they were currently training with the best facilities in the country.
Meanwhile Team Nigeria contingent are expected to depart the country for Zambia before April 29 when the Championship is billed to commence.
