Adekalu Bulls beat Ekiti Glorious Liberty 9-4 in Baseball 5 Youth Championship finals

Lagos-based Adekalu Bulls in a dominant display defeated Ekiti Glorious Liberty by 9-4 in the finals of the Baseball 5 National Youth Championship.

The National 5 Youth Championships, which held at Molade Okoya Thomas Indoor Sport Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, was organised by the Nigerian Baseball and Softball Association.

The three-day Baseball 5 National Youth Championship had participants from Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Kwara and Ekiti.

The finals of the elimination series, however, had Adekalu Bulls playing against Ekiti Glorious Liberty, which ended in favour of the host by 1-0, 0-1, 3-2, 2-1, 3-0 with the total score at 9-4.

The captain of Adekalu Bulls, Divine Ibuzie, said that the victory in the finals was a hard fought one.

“We have to put in our best to beat the Ekiti team because they have defeated us before.

“The finals was not that easy because some of our regular players were not around, but we hope to do well at the African Championships coming up in Ghana,” he said.

Ekiti Glorious Liberty team player, Sheriff Akorede, said the team lost to a better side, and promised that the team would do better next time.

“The Lagos team played very well today, we have defeated them before, but today is theirs and we hope to meet again to beat them,” he said.

Excited Acting President, Nigerian Baseball and Softball Federation, praised the organsers for putting up a decent championships.

“This is a fantastic championships which I am delighted to witness, Baseball 5 is just gaining ground in Nigeria, but with this level of play, we have a promising future.

“We are more ready than before to promote Baseball 5 in Nigeria through some lined up programmes, especially for the cadet teams.

“We have reached out to some other states to get them involved in this development and we will surely dominate African Baseball,” she said.

Chizoba Obaje emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the championship while Sheriff Akorede emerged as the Best Player.
