Organisers of the PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon have announced the prize money for the 2026 edition, with the elite race winner set to earn $8,000. The competition will take place in Abuja on November 14, bringing together local and international athletes for the 21-kilometre road race.
The prize structure covers two categories: the international elite competition and a separate category for Nigerian runners. The arrangement provides opportunities for domestic athletes to compete for significant financial rewards while testing themselves against a wider field.
In the elite category, the winner will receive $8,000, while the runner-up will earn $6,000. The third-place finisher will collect $5,000, with fourth and fifth places attracting $4,000 and $3,000, respectively.
Athletes finishing sixth will receive $2,000, while seventh and eighth place will earn $1,000 and $500, respectively.
Nigerian athletes will also compete for prizes in the domestic category. The winner will take home ₦2 million, while the second-place finisher will receive ₦1.5 million. Third place carries a reward of ₦1 million.
The fourth and fifth-place finishers will earn ₦500,000 and ₦300,000, respectively. Athletes finishing sixth, seventh and eighth will receive ₦200,000, ₦100,000 and ₦50,000, respectively.
The separate Nigerian category is designed to encourage local participation and recognise the performance of home-based runners. It also gives Nigerian athletes a chance to compete for substantial rewards within the broader international event.
PremiumTrust Bank's backing reflects continued corporate involvement in Nigerian athletics. The sponsorship provides a platform for road runners to gain competitive experience and demonstrate their abilities in a major city race.
The 2026 race is expected to attract elite long-distance runners, athletics clubs, corporate teams and recreational participants from Nigeria and other countries. The 21-kilometre event will give runners an opportunity to measure their endurance, gain competitive experience and test their preparation against athletes from different backgrounds.
Organisers have encouraged interested runners to register ahead of race day. Preparations are also expected to cover timing systems, medical services, security and traffic management to support the smooth conduct of the competition.
The race is organised by Nilayo Sports Management Limited, with PremiumTrust Bank serving as the sponsor. The event has continued to provide a platform for promoting road running, athlete development and sports participation in Nigeria.
With the November 14 date approaching, athletes will now focus on their preparations for the Abuja race and the opportunity to compete for the announced prizes.
