As the 3rd Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics gets underway, coaches and officials have been advised to update themselves with the latest rules in the sport.
The clinic and technical meeting issued this advice ahead of the Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, where the tournament will take place.
The Technical Director of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Ohaike Darmian, highlighted the importance for coaches and officials to stay informed about the rules at all times.

Ohaike Darmian emphasized that officials should avoid complacency, as there is always room for improvement.
"This clinic is very important because sports policies are the rules and guidelines that govern the activities and operations of sports organizations and events. They are essential for ensuring safety, fairness, quality, and accountability in the sports sector," he noted.
"However, sports policies are not static and need to be regularly reviewed and updated to reflect the changing needs, expectations, and challenges of the sports environment. If you do not follow this, global practices will leave you behind."
Darmian urged coaches and officials to keep themselves updated on current rules and regulations.
Nigeria Wrestling Federation President Daniel Igali added that rules and guidelines are regularly reviewed based on findings and recommendations from past events.
Igali stressed that officials should prioritize urgent and essential rules, which can be accessed on the United World Wrestling website or through official UWW publications. He encouraged them to communicate these updated rules to their athletes, ensuring they understand and follow them, as "athletes are shaped by what they are taught."
Accompanying the President to oversee the technical meeting were the Federation's Vice President, Chris Amkpila, Secretary General, Mohammed Maigidansanma, and other stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Tuesday’s schedule includes the Wrestling Federation’s Annual General Meeting and the first bout in Junior/Cadet Greco-Roman, women’s, and freestyle wrestling.
