2025 NDSF: Team Edo harvests more gold in athletics, boxing, as competition gets rousing end

As the maiden Niger Delta Sports Festival concluded, Team Edo achieved a significant haul of gold and silver medals, securing a podium finish in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.


By Sunday evening, four boxers from Team Edo had already reached the finals. Of these four, three won gold, while the other claimed silver on Monday afternoon, firmly establishing their dominance in the combat sport.


In athletics, Team Edo was outstanding in the 4x4 mixed relay, emerging as the top finishers.


Faith Osamuyi also won gold in the women's 100-meter hurdles, a race that added excitement to the festival.


Additionally, Prosper Eguakun secured a gold medal by finishing first in the men's javelin event.


In weightlifting, Joy Benedict truly brought immense joy to the heartbeat state, winning three gold medals in the 71kg category.


The para-athletes, who secured the first gold medal for Edo in the NDSF, also contributed to Monday's success, winning one gold, one silver, and one bronze in para-athletics. Okojie Samuel won gold in the javelin, and Evelyn Ovomadu won silver in the discus.


Furthermore, Daniel Omogbae managed to win a bronze medal in the discus.


Team Edo also secured a gold medal in the women's high jump event.


Team Edo's total medal count rose to 85: 21 gold, 33 silver, and 31 bronze medals.
