The 2024 Tour de France Femmes is set to commence in Rotterdam, with the Netherlands serving as the host for the opening three stages of the race, as announced by the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) and race organizers on Monday.
Scheduled to take place from August 12 to 18, the women's Tour will see the first stage concluding in The Hague, followed by the second stage ending in Dordrecht. The remaining details of the route will be unveiled in October.
This will be the first time the race begins on foreign soil, as the 2022 edition started in Paris. The current year's competition, scheduled from July 23 to 30, will kick off in Clermont Ferrand.
"We take pride in organizing the Tour de France Femmes' first foreign Grand Depart in collaboration with The Hague and Dordrecht," stated Ahmed Aboutaleb, the Mayor of Rotterdam.
Having witnessed the return of the Tour de France Femmes in 2022 after a 33-year hiatus, which saw Dutch cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar) emerge as the champion, the Netherlands is recognized as a major hub for women's cycling.
"The recent seasons have showcased the dominance of Dutch cyclists. Beginning the race from the home of these champions will undoubtedly ignite a magnificent celebration. We can expect their enthusiastic supporters to turn out in large numbers," said race director Marion Rousse.
