Team Nigeria is officially opening domestic camps in three states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as the Federal Ministry of Sports Development intensifies athletes' preparation for the Paris Olympics.

The states for the domestic camp include Lagos, Bayelsa, Ibadan, and the FCT.

Sports Development Minister, Senator John Enoh, revealed this in Abuja during a strategic ministerial technical meeting.

He said the meeting aims to prepare Team Nigeria for the Olympics/Paralympics.

Present at the meeting were presidents, secretaries, and technical directors of the 11 sports federations with Olympic destination.

The minister, who emphasized the importance of proper preparation for the Games, assured that foreign training tours for athletes will commence immediately after the domestic camp.

He said some countries close to France, such as Germany, Spain, Italy, and even the United States, have been considered for overseas tours for athletes heading to Paris.

Owan Enoh assured that no effort would be spared to ensure Team Nigeria performs well at the Games.

"The combination of domestic camps and overseas training tours is essential. It ensures that our athletes are well-prepared and ready to compete at the highest level," he said.

The minister said the ministry was working day and night to surpass Nigeria's best performance at the Olympics, achieved at the 1996 Atlanta Games.

"Surpassing our best Olympic performance is a goal we must aspire to achieve.

"We must build on our past successes and strive for excellence in Paris 2024," said Enoh.

A comprehensive roadmap and technical training program for Team Nigeria before the Games were outlined at the stakeholders' meeting.

The program will be thoroughly reviewed by the Department of Federations and Elite Athletes (FEAD) and the Ministerial Committee for Podium Performance to ensure Team Nigeria is on the right track to win medals.

The minister said the roadmap is designed to provide athletes with the best possible preparation, leveraging state-of-the-art facilities and expert coaching both locally and internationally.

So far, 88 athletes have qualified for the Olympics, while others are in the qualification process.

The Paris Olympics are scheduled from July 26 to August 11.
