2024 NYG: Team Edo captures more medals, as games hot up

Team Edo has continued to harvest more medals with brilliant performances at the ongoing National Youth Games 'Asaba 2024. Divine Ogbe and Desmond Eroirewaen began Day 2 of the competition with gold medals.


Divine clinched the gold medal in the Individual Time event in Cycling (female), which was held along the Ibusa-Asaba Express Road in the early hours of the day.


Desmond Eroirewaen also bagged his gold medal in Karate (male, 47kg), increasing Edo State’s gold medal count to five.


Esther Amarachi Chijioke was the first to register her name in gold, winning three gold medals for Edo State on Day 1 of the competition, making Edo the first to secure gold at the Asaba Games.


In Cycling, Team Edo also won silver thanks to Esther Godwin, while the bronze medal went to Plateau State.


Aigbe Precious Esohe (female, +47kg) and Master Idugu Wealth (male, +50kg) won silver and bronze medals respectively in Karate.


Adebayo Prosper and Ovuema Oghenefijiro were also rewarded with bronze in the mixed doubles Para Table Tennis event, while Mustapha Quadri and Ivie Edogiawerie also took bronze in Para Table Tennis.


Precious Tessa and Lucky Ayemi won silver and bronze medals for Edo in the 100m breaststroke (aquatic male event), respectively, increasing the state’s medal haul.


Team Edo will compete against Team Oyo in the football event at St. Patrick's.


The Edo team, which lost 2-1 to Delta in their first match, will need to redeem themselves against Oyo in their second match.
