As action heats up in the ongoing 8th Edition of the National Youth Games (NYG), Asaba 2024, Team Kaduna defied all odds to secure a gold medal in Taekwondo on Sunday.
Abdallah Lawal Namanu of Team Kaduna won the first gold medal in the Taekwondo event at the NYG 2024, held in Asaba, Delta State.
In the Swimming event, Maknum Auwal won three medals: a silver in the 50 meters butterfly event, along with two bronze medals in other events.
Meanwhile, Hassan Olojoku claimed a gold medal for Team Kwara in Scrabble. The talented student from Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Adewole showcased remarkable skills and determination, securing the gold medal in the singles event.
AbdulRafiu Olojoku, the head of Scrabble, praised the performance of his athlete for achieving the goal of clinching gold, adding that the Scrabble community will continue to make Kwara proud in future championships.
In another impressive haul, the Kano Fives team won two gold medals in singles and doubles on Sunday. Kano's athlete, Abubakar Isah Sadauki, won the first gold medal in the men’s singles final, defeating Lagos athletes 14-0 at the squash court, Government House, Asaba, Delta State.
In the fives doubles event, the talented duo of Abubakar Isha Sadauki and Abdulrahaman Abubakar also defeated Bayelsa 41-0 in the final at the same venue.
With this achievement, the Kano team has become the first to win two gold medals in Fives this year.
Currently, Kano has a total of three medals: two gold medals in Fives and one bronze medal in swimming (100 meters backstroke).
