The National Youth Games 'Asaba 2024' has kicked off in Delta State as scheduled, with the screening of athletes from various states of the federation taking place at the Stephen Keshi Stadium. The screening centers were bustling with large contingents of young athletes, including those from Edo, who came out for the screening exercise.
The screening exercise, which lasted for more than ten hours, was conducted at the discretion of the screening committee.
Having been cleared for the competition proper, Team Edo’s Karate and Tennis coaches expressed their teams' readiness for the competition, which begins on Thursday.
Coach Osazuwa Uriel of Team Edo Karate stated that his team is prepared to face any opponents that come their way, with their competition scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. inside the Multipurpose Hall of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
"I was never concerned by the screening process because I prepared children within the age limit of 14 and 13 years. So, I never entertained the fear of disqualification, and I believe in my athletes' abilities to win something for our state," Osazuwa said.
Coach Goriola Wahab of Team Edo Tennis also mentioned that his team is ready for the game tomorrow, stating that Team Edo athletes are in good shape. He added that his team is in Asaba to compete and win medals for Edo State.
The tennis competition is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Indoor Sports Hall.
